Just 11 days after the release of Claude Design, an open-source clone was developed, sparking renewed discussions around the rapid adoption of AI tools. While social media often emphasizes the availability of “free versions,” the real issue for companies is not pricing, but governance and responsibility.

Open Design offers technically impressive features, including 71 brand design systems, 19 skills, BYOK architecture, and local execution. However, the claim that “data stays on your device” does not automatically guarantee auditability or proper control.

When organizations adopt AI tools, they must address several critical questions: whose API key is being used, what data flows through the model, whether this includes customer data, and whether there is formal internal approval such as an NDA.

Experts note that if these questions remain unanswered, using a “free AI tool” can introduce hidden risks and costs. In the event of a data incident, the response “we didn’t know” is not acceptable to regulators.

While companies like Anthropic provide subscriptions and technical support, defining governance boundaries, audit processes, and data responsibility remains the organization’s own responsibility.
